Diamonds are evaluated using the 4Cs: Cut, Colour, Clarity, and Carat weight. These factors determine a diamond’s beauty, rarity, and value.
- Cut: Refers to the proportions and angles of a diamond’s facets, directly influencing its sparkle. A well-cut diamond maximizes light refraction for exceptional brilliance.
- Colour: The closer a diamond is to colourless (D on the GIA scale), the rarer and more valuable it is. A slight yellow tint is very common and may not be noticeable to the naked eye.
- Clarity: Refers to the presence of any internal or external flaws within the diamond. Flawless diamonds (FL) are extremely rare, while inclusions that are minor and invisible to the naked eye (VS1 or VS2) offer a good balance of quality and value.
- Carat weight: Measures the diamond’s weight, directly impacting its size. However, cut plays a significant role in a diamond’s perceived size.
